This drink is definitely a sum of its parts . Use the best ingredients you can .Balance is the name of the game here . Citrus can vary in tartness depending on where it is from and the time of the year it has grown ! Balancing this out with the right amount of sugar is how you will be able to make a good drink into a great one .

The drink was supposedly invented in the mining town of Daquiri by an American mining engineer named Jennings Cox who was in Cuba at the time of the Spanish - American war in 1898 . Its popularity gained in World War 2 in the U.S as whiskey and vodka was becoming hard to come by due to rationing and the president Franklin D Roosevelt had just opened up a trade agreement with Latin America, Cuba and the Caribbean which meant that Rum was readily available . The daquiri became the fashionable drink of that era .
